A great find this morning: A pod of about 50-100 False Killer Whales! They are quite a rare sight around Sydney with maybe one or two encounters per season.
It was a great day with calm sea conditions and hardly any wind, so we were able to spot these from miles away. We didn’t know initially what we had spotted and assumed it was a pod of dolphins.
As we drew closer we noticed that they were way to big to be dolphins, at roughly double the size.
We were able to cruise along side them for quite a while and managed to get some very close looks at them as they swam under our boat a few times.
One of the better FKW sightings!
